South Loop School - ISAT Readiness Note from the Principal
February 26, 2010
Dear 3rd through 8th Grade Parents and Guardians:
I am writing to inform you of how important it is to have your child in school everyday and on time during the ISAT testing period of Tuesday, March 2 - Friday, March 12, 2010.
As you know, we have developed our own internal assessment system as a way to better know your child's learning needs, especially those areas related to the state standards and ISAT testing. Additionally, CPS Benchmark Assessment provides the teachers in grades 3-8 with the necessary data three times a year to address your child's learning needs. Check your child's book bag for the Winter Benchmark Parent Report. As a supplement to our regular school day, we also offered additional academic support programs: After School Academic Counts and Apple Tutoring to assist in moving all our students ahead. These programs are specifically designed to target student learning needs as they relate to the key skills and abilities tested at each grade level:
.
It is imperative that your child is proficient in the critical areas on which they will be tested in:
Reading (grades 3 - 8), Math (grades 3 - 8), Science (grades 4 & 7), Writing (grades 3, 5, 6 & 8)
We expect all of our students to exceed or meet the state standards. Along with your child working hard every day, the work of your child's teacher, the instructional plans we prepare for the year and all that you do to help your child every day, I am asking you for more in order to help better ensure your child's academic success.
Please have your child in attendance at school every day (9:00 AM) with (two) #2 pre-sharpened pencils during the testing period. Provide a light breakfast each morning or send your child to school at 8:30 AM to participate in the school's free breakfast program. Also,it is imperative that your childreceives a good night sleep throughout the testing period.
While I am very proud of the level of our student achievement, I am not taking anything for granted and encourage you to do the same. . Please understand the importance of having your child present for each day of testing- there will be no make-up testing after March 12, 2010. ISAT results are a key factor of promotional determination.
South Loop Students are ISAT ready!
Thank you for your continued support to your children and to our school.
Yours in Education,
Mrs. Shelton |
