Letter from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians:
On behalf of South Loop School’s Administration, Staff, Local School Council, Volunteer Coordinators and Family Involvement Group (F.I.G.), I want to extend a hearty welcome to you as we kick off our 2011-2012 school year.
At South Loop Elementary School, we know that our strong focus on academics is the primary reason for the successful track record we have established over the past decade. Last year was no exception, as we continued to increase our scholastic achievement with ISAT scores that rose from 91.6% to 95.4% of our students meeting or exceeding the state standards in reading and math.
We feel that our success can be attributed to our outstanding staff of teachers, who are among the best in the entire Chicago Public School System. We also recognize that learning happens both inside and outside of the classroom. Our extended day programs and extra-curricular activities help our students explore their interests and allow them to creatively apply what they learn in the classroom while responding to their social and emotional needs.
We also recognize the importance of parental involvement, and we encourage parents to volunteer at the school, as well as to provide them with tools to support their child's education at home.
Our school has changed over the past 10 years, and so has our school website! We hope you find our new website informative and that it will provide a window into our school culture which we call The South Loop Way. It is a culture which encourages all of our students to “Be Safe. Be Responsible. Be Respectful.”
Sincerely,
Ms. Tara Shelton
