South Loop Summer Camp Gets Jazzed Up!
Approximately 25 students from South Loop Summer Camp participated in the UIC/Chicago Jazz Philharmonic's 3rd annual Jazz Camp this past July. This joint venture was made possible by the school's partnership with the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, and South Loop students comprised about 20% of the camp participants.
The camp was open to both novice and more seasoned jazz musicians in middle and high school. Students were introduced to music theory, the fundamentals and history of jazz, and techniques of improvisation. Most of all, the students had fun learning to work together to bring together a jazz band and create that great jazz sound!
This intensive workshop will help our band students to be better musicians, and help our band instructor, Mr. Zetl, create an even better sound during our 2011-2012 school year. Our partnership with the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic will continue throughout this coming school year to allow students to continue get jazzed up!
